Combat isn’t overly intense because of its quasi-third person perspective. Unlike the other small handful of child-oriented VR games, it’s relaxing to explore the game’s linear story while remaining seated. It’s a weird way to make use of the capabilities of virtual reality to be sure, but thankfully it works surprisingly well. When cutscenes end, you’re able to control Quill with the Quest’s joysticks, order the fluffy fur-tagonist to attack with the controller’s buttons and occasionally manipulate the environment for puzzles with movement controls all while having a 3D view of the game’s environments. In “cutscenes”, all you need to do is flip through pages with your Quest controllers (or presumably your PlayStation VR ones, the details of which you can read about here) while sitting on your most comfortable real life chair. However, instead of directly controlling the mouse, you play as someone who’s reading its story while directing the mouse during combat and navigation sequences.Īssuming that you haven’t played the first Moss game, this may seem a tad confusing, but thankfully it’s a lot more straightforward than it initially appears. Said book, which is technically the second in its series after the original Moss, tells the story of a mouse named Quill that’s tasked with saving a dead kingdom. Instead, it’s a weird mixture of fairy tales and Fable that puts you in control of someone who’s reading a children’s adventure book. Enjoy a rich tale of intriguing characters, illustrious artifacts, and legends old and new.Unlike the majority of virtual reality-exclusive games, Moss: Book II isn’t an immersive first person shooter. Solve puzzles, combat evil, and achieve victory together.įrom its opening pages, Moss: Book II continues to draw you into a first-of-its-kind fully immersive world of myth and magic. Combine classic, action-adventure controls with a world that responds to your touch. Your abilities are complementary to Quill’s in an alliance for the ages. Explore the castle where her uncle was held captive, caves beneath, snow covered mountain tops to the depths below filled with ancient artifacts, mysterious creatures, and sprawling views. Travel back to a lively world that hums with wonder and legend. Your every action has even more meaning in Moss: Book II, as we take full advantage of today’s virtual reality technology, letting you move objects, battle enemies, and manipulate the field of play as the key ally to our hero, Quill. Yet in the end, it is you alone who can lift Quill up to save this world, and together, rise to legend. The journey will be trying-filled with triumph and heartbreak alike-but new allies, old friends, and the very nature of the castle itself can offer help along the way. But Quill has a plan of her own, one that could finally end the merciless rule of the Arcane and save the world from a great unmaking. Having rescued her uncle Argus, Quill’s adventure continues with the revelation that a winged tyrant is hunting her within the castle where her uncle was held captive. Moss: Book II picks up right where the story in Moss left off. It combines classic components of a great game-such as compelling characters, gripping combat, and captivating world exploration-with the exciting opportunities of virtual reality. Book II is a single-player action-adventure puzzle game from Polyarc tailor-made for VR. ![]() Moss: Book II is the award-winning sequel to the fan favorite VR game Moss and has secured a spot on multiple essential and must-play lists.
